Final Session Tuesday 21st June
Link to Referencing website
Mike's yard, Launching and Hauling
Last week we discussed the visit to Boat Haulage Ltd and the techniques they use to load/unload and Transport boats by road and lift by crane
We also had a discussion on trailers, launching and retrieving on a ramp or beach by trailer. I have placed a power point on the student drive under Marine/Repair and Transportation and there is a link to a helpful (trailer requirements) website on the previous post on this Blog
Remember that transporting a boat is not just to protect what you can see there are items and equipment inside that need to be checked and secure also
Next week the final session will be to go over the course to make sure you are happy with what we have covered, to answer any questions relating to the assessment and to discuss the method to complete several jobs that a repair yard would do regularly

Next Week 14 th June
Last week we travelled to Boat Haulage and had an interesting session on moving boats around we were shown a range of trucks that are being used for Transportation of boats ranging in size and up to 100 tons in weight. Pete from Boat Haulage also shared his experience with some ideas on blocking, lifting with a crane, and cradle types.
We then went to the Dry Stack Boat Park at Orams Marine which is another way of storing boats up to 12m long
Next week is the second to last session and we will talk about some of the important aspects of trailer design, this is something you need to prep up on so that you can contribute to that discussion
What do you know about techniques for launching and retrieving on a boat ramp, trailer lights, trailer brakes, Tandem wheels?

next week 7 th June
Hi All,
We are going to travel down to Orams Dry stack to have a look at how that operates, and also visit Boat Haulage Ltd where Bob Wylie operator/manager will share some of his boat transportation experience with us, we will leave from outside the workshop at 1:pm on Tuesday 7th.
You need to do some study on trailerboat trailers.
Preparation of the boat itself for shipping and moving is also a subject we need to discuss
What about containers, what size boat can we get into a container?
